2009 Fall Season Preview Timetable
Well it seems I’ve jumped the gun a in relation to Fall Season; after thinking that there would be a torrent of anime starting in September I went to find out exactly when this would all be happening only to find out that October is when it all lands. In fact there’s only three shows starting in September and none of them really interest me, disappointment is an understatement. I’ll still keep to my one-episode goal, I can always talk about the subbers and the studio even if I may not be too interested in the subject material.
One thing that I thought would be important to point out is the lack of set airing dates for a fair few anime, especially since there are a number of the big names among them. Darker than Black, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun and White Album Final are amongst those having only a vague “October” start, which could mean not much or it could be a precursor to a “whoops, we’re not ready so we’ll try again in Winter Season”. The number of shows in the same situation at least gives some hope that during the month to come some more solid release dates will be published for the bulk of them.
Making this chart was the first time I’ve used Adobe Fireworks and I must say that for this sort of thing it is absolutely great, I wish I had used it sooner. Many thanks to Chartfag for both cluing me into this and for the great charts he makes every season, I highly recommend you visit his site and check out his work. The above chart (click it if you haven’t already, it expands out to show more than just that crop) isn’t meant to replace his – as if it could – but is just to help give a better overview of what the release schedule is going to look like.
A final note: the sources I’ve used for the timetable (Moonphase and Fansubwiki) both use the weird 24++ hours in a day system Japan has so some shows that are scheduled for a certain day don’t necessarily air on that day. To explain what I mean I’ll use an example: Nyankoi! is set to air at 25:59 on the 1st of October, but since there’s only 24 hours in a day this is really just a fancy way of saying 1:59am on the 2nd. I’ve opted to use the dates as shown on these sites (ie: not adjusted to normal 24 hours) for the sake of standardisation, so please bear this in mind.
