The past two weeks have seen a number of things happen, most relevant amongst them being the complete and utter lack of any blogging on my behalf. I guess the foremost amongst them would be that it’s fairly typical of me, I grab hold of things and have plenty of energy to start off with but after a while I fade out rather badly unless there’s enough motivation there.

Review: Darker Than Black – Ryuusei no Gemini (Gemini of the Meteor)

Lazy lazy. I almost made this a dual review in a shortened style I plan to use in the future, but as I got into it I realised that Darker Than Black deserved more. After next review (which will be Sora no Otoshimono) I’ll pick out two series that have failed to impress and use the new style but for now let’s dive into another sequel series, and this time it’s one I’ve already seen the prequel for!

Review: Tentai Senshi Sunred 2 (Astro Fighter Sunred 2)

Launching straight into the second season (having not watched the first) I take on the second season of Tentai Senshi Sunred and it’s genre-parodying comedy, and find a bit of a gem where I wasn’t expecting to find one.

Review: Seiken no Blacksmith (The Sacred Blacksmith)

title

This is another series that had tweaked my interest based solely on its little part of Chartfag’s chart, and so it was with some expectation that I sat down to watch it. Adventure, fantasy, blacksmithing, lolis; what could possibly go wrong? Time to put it to the acid test and find out.

Just to note, from now on I will be using the title name as per AniDB as the primary and putting the accepted English name (if any) afterwards in brackets.

Note on screenshots: a number of screenshots were taken at half resolution, the reasons are discussed below.

Review: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

October 10th, 2009 Itkatsu 4 comments

titleThe power of fans and minor characters brings us this weeks target in the form of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun), a “sidestory” / sequel (?) to To Aru Majutsu no Index, and serves to step up and show us how to do things right where a few of the previously reviewed series have gone wrong. Mazui subs fills out the subbing slot this week and brings out a pet peeve of mine in the process.

Review: Tatakau Shisho – The Book of Bantorra

Tatakau Shisho – The Book of Bantorra takes us away from gender-bending harems and into the realm of industrial-age fantasy as we hit up our third review and our first out of a slew of Crunchyroll-licensed series. A bit of a format re-arrange tops things off as I mess around to try and find a style that doesn’t lock me in too much as I felt that I had been failing to include some things I wanted to mention and having to talk about things that I really didn’t know what to say about them.

Without further ado, let’s dive in!

Review: Kämpfer

After a longer delay than expected it’s time to kick things off again, and what better way to do it than with a bit of gender-swapping lesbian harem-ism? Throw in some action, a completely unbiased subbing group and some hot coffee (for me) and let’s get this under way!

Nobody likes Alice ;_;

It’s a day late, but it was my birthday on Monday, not that it was really a monumentous occassion. The only thing special about it was that it marks the passing of my first quarter-century alive, making me feel both older than I should be and telling me that I’m old enough that I should have actually achieved something with my life by now, which I haven’t.

Ended up spending most of the day at work with nothing interesting happening (except for accepting to work on Friday, which will make it a 6-day week), though to be fair I don’t think anybody actually knows when my birthday is, I’m not the type to go around telling people unless they ask since it seems a bit like attention-whoring to go around saying “hey gaiz, hey gaiz, it’s mah birfffdaaaay!”

For unrelated reasons it’s been a busy few past days so I haven’t been able to watch any of the mass of releases of anime that’s come out, though hopefully I’ll be getting through a few of the ones I’ve downloaded tonight and write up my little reviews about them. Looking forward to seeing how the new season shapes up!

Review: Queen’s Blade: Gyokuza no Tsumono

Before I kick things off since this is the first review I done here I’ll just give a quick breakdown of how they’ll go (unless I change the format in the future). Since it’s only a quick review on the first episode it’s not going to be able to capture fully what the series is about, but hopefully it will be able to give those people looking at picking up some current series a sneak peek into both the show and a subbing group.

The Basics will just list some of the more important facts about the show for an at-a-glance overview; The Show will go into episode itself and talk briefly on an introduction, my impressions, the animation of the show, and the Voice Actors in it; finally the Five-Second Summary is just that, a summary of all that I wrote that you can fly through in five seconds if you’re too busy or don’t want to read the above.

With that out of the way, here we go!

2009 Fall Season Preview Timetable v2

2009s4_timetable_v2

Looking oddly like last post here. It’s a v2, that’s why, and no we’re not talking about German WW2 missiles either. It’s been nearly two weeks since the original chart, and after going for a browse today I saw that some new release dates had been set. A lot of new release dates as it turned out, with all but four of the season’s expectations now being nailed into a starting date and a very busy line-up kicking off on the first day of October with no less than three new shows airing every day for six days solid.
